Wedding Photographer Cost UK: Real Prices

Wedding photography prices are slippery things. Two packages can both say “full day” while offering different hours, travel limits and finished galleries.

So we checked real prices instead of repeating an unexplained average.

What ten photographers were charging

We recorded the lowest comparable full-day digital package displayed by each photographer on 3 September 2026.

The sample range was £795 to £3,000. The middle two prices produced a median of £1,372.50.

This is not a national average. It is a dated, reproducible shopping sample from public price pages.

Why the cheapest number is not the whole answer

The ten packages were not identical. Some specified eight hours, while others ran from preparations through the first dance.

Travel, image counts, previews and gallery access also differed. Several photographers offered albums or a second photographer as paid additions.

The final row matters only after the others are clear.

What “full day” usually means

In our sample, full-day descriptions commonly began during preparations and ended around the first dance.

That may suit a traditional schedule. It may not cover a late party, early ceremony or several getting-ready locations.

Ask for exact start and finish times in the contract. Avoid relying on a broad phrase from the sales page.

What to check before booking

Complete galleries

Instagram shows the strongest frames. A complete gallery reveals how somebody handles dark rooms, rain, family groups and an ordinary dance floor.

Ask to see two recent full weddings with a similar venue or season.

The person arriving on the day

Confirm who will photograph your wedding. This matters when a studio uses associates or offers several teams.

Back-up plans

Ask what happens after illness, equipment failure or corrupted storage. You do not need a technical lecture, just a calm answer.

Usage and delivery

Check when previews and the full gallery arrive. Confirm whether you receive high-resolution downloads and personal printing rights.

Insurance and the contract

Your venue may require public liability insurance. The contract should cover payment dates, cancellation, postponement and the photographer’s emergency plan.

Extras that can change the total

Do not borrow a generic extras price from another photographer. Ask your shortlisted photographer for their current figure.

Common additions include:

• a second photographer
• an engagement shoot
• extra hours
• a printed album
• parent albums
• faster editing
• travel or accommodation
• analogue film

How to spend less without gambling on the result

Shorter coverage is the cleanest saving. Keep the ceremony, portraits and reception, then drop preparations or late dancing.

You can also ask about weekday, winter or small-wedding packages. These are genuine package changes, not awkward haggling.

Skip the album initially if digital coverage matters more. First check how long the gallery remains available.

Never choose only from ten highlight photographs. Style matters, but consistency matters when the weather turns.

A relaxed message to send photographers

Hello, we are getting married at [venue] on [date]. Could you send your current package details and a full recent gallery?

Add your ceremony time, guest count and likely finish. That gives the photographer enough context for a useful answer.

Our method and limits

We included ten photographers with a public sterling price and a clearly described full-day package.

We recorded one comparable digital package per business. We excluded combined photo-and-video packages and prices available only after an enquiry.

The sample is deliberately small and spread across several regions. It shows real advertised prices, not every UK photographer.
